Panelists
Lyra S. Carr - United States Consul General Halifax
Lyra S. Carr assumed her duties as Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Halifax in July 2021, only the second female Consul General in the Post’s history. Her overseas assignments included Immigrant Visa Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala, Consular Section Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Albania, Staff Assistant and Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan, and Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Peru and the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic. Throughout both her domestic and foreign assignments Lyra has been a passionate advocate of mentoring the next generation of Foreign Service Officers.
A native of southern California, Lyra is a graduate of Stanford University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Medieval Studies and a Master of Arts in German Studies. Lyra is the recipient of several State Department Superior and Meritorious Honor awards, as well as a special commendation for outstanding service in the civil division issued by U.S. Department of Justice. She speaks Spanish and has studied German, Albanian, and Italian.
She is accompanied in Halifax by her husband, a retired Foreign Service Officer, their two sons, and their adopted cat from Albania.
Christine Hanson - Regional Driector of International Trade for Atlantic Canada, Global Affairs Canada
Christine Hanson has achieved success over the past two decades in a wide range of public service roles
in both Canada and abroad as a senior government executive, international lawyer and diplomat.
Christine is currently the Regional Director of International Trade for the Atlantic Region at Global Affairs
Canada. In this role she leads a team with offices across Atlantic Canada that helps Canadian businesses
explore global markets, find new customers and partners, and promote growth through exports.
Christine was awarded a Building a Better World Alumni Award from Dalhousie
University. She was also an International Women’s Forum Global Leadership Foundation Fellow at
Harvard Business School and INSEAD in France. Christine currently serves on the Board of Directors of
the Canadian Red Cross.
Indigo Christ - International Youth Internships Program Manager, Atlantic Council for International Cooperation
Indigo Christ (she/her) is an experienced Program Manager with a focus on developing and delivering transformative and cross-cultural programs for youth. As ACIC’s International Youth Internship Program Manager, she brings together her passions for connecting youth to meaningful global experiences, solidarity-based international collaboration, and building sustainable, just, and vibrant communities.
