About the event

Celebrate African Heritage Month and International Development Week with the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) and Connecting to Africa. Join us for a screening of the powerful BBC Africa Eye documentary Dark Waters: Africa's Deadliest Migration Route, which sheds light on the perilous journeys undertaken by migrants across the Mediterranean.

Following the screening, engage in an insightful discussion with Mr. Bright Fiaga from the International Council for Immigration, Entrepreneurship, and Employment (CIIEE). Mr. Fiaga will be joined by additional speakers, including an immigration lawyer and a PhD researcher who has conducted in-depth interviews with migrants in Spain who survived the journey from Libya. Together, they will examine the migration experience through a social justice lens, highlighting the tragic consequences of illegal migration while exploring pathways for action in both home and global communities.

Speakers will also share insights into the broader impacts of migration, raising awareness and fostering solutions to address this critical issue. Additionally, Connecting to Africa will discuss their collaboration with CIIEE to promote Brain Gain initiatives and support sustainable development in African communities.

This event offers an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations dedicated to addressing migration's challenges and creating a more just and equitable world.
